“We are all interconnected. The action of one person has an effect on all they come into contact with. The collective Consciousness that we create together in a society has an influence on us and we have an influence on it. When we reach that deep state of Consciousness with Transcendental Meditation, we are enlivening a state of peace, harmony, and calm in the entire society.”
— Dr. Tony Nader
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation technique, predicted that only a small portion of the population practicing the TM* technique would be enough to have a positive impact on the entire society.
Now referred to in the scientific literature as the “Maharishi Effect”, this technology of Consciousness requires only the square root of 1% of a population practicing the advanced TM-Sidhi program, participating as a group, to reduce collective stress and raise collective Consciousness in the society.
The square root of 1% translates to approximately:
More than 50 papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals or professional conference proceedings on the Maharishi Effect. One of the first studies, the “Israel study” published in 1988 by the prestigious Journal of Conflict Resolution1, focused on the summer of 1983 when Israeli troops occupied Beirut. On days when the number of TM practitioners attending a TM World Peace Assembly in Jerusalem was high, war deaths decreased by 76%.
A longitudinal study2 expanded that work, analyzing the effect of six World Peace Assemblies where the TM-Sidhi group was large enough to have a predicted impact on the war in Lebanon, together with the original Israel study. On average, there was the following impact on the Lebanon War:
A 17-year study published in 2022 in the World Journal of Social Sciences3 demonstrated improvement in various measures of the quality of life in the United States when the number of people practicing the advanced TM-Sidhi program at Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa, surpassed the square root of 1% of the U.S. population (1,725 participants).
Murder, rape, assault, robbery, infant mortality, drug-related deaths, vehicle fatalities, and death of children by injuries all significantly decreased.
A global demonstration of the Maharishi Effect took place in Hyderabad, India, in January 2024, with over 10,000 TM and TM-Sidhi participants. Under the leadership of Dr. Tony Nader, the worldwide TM organization is committed to establishing permanent groups of 10,000 TM and TM-Sidhi participants, approximately the square root of 1% of the world population, in order to produce a lasting effect of global peace.
